Spaying your pets is still a great way to help them live a healthy life. For medium, large, and giant breed dogs, it’s best to wait until they’re at least a year old before spaying, while smaller breeds can often be spayed before their first heat. However, it’s always a good idea to discuss this with us during your puppy visits. Neutering, like spaying, is something the veterinary community is re-evaluating, especially regarding timing.
Generally, the bigger the breed, the better it is to wait—around 10 months for small breeds, and up to 18 months for large and giant breeds. Delaying neutering can help reduce the risk of certain orthopedic issues, so we recommend chatting about the best timing for your pup during those early visits.
From the moment your pet arrives, until they’re fully recovered, we’ll be right there, closely monitoring every step of the way. We know that surgery can be nerve-wracking for you, and we’re here to help ease any worries. Whether it’s a routine spay or neuter or something more complex, we’re happy to chat with you about how our surgical services can give your pet the care and support they need.
